Ron Hall is a full-time artist and has taught art in Rotorua for the past thirty years. He is a new artist to Parnell Gallery, with his first works being exhibited in August this year. Hall has a Master of Fine Arts Degree and has been an overall winner in the open section of the National Molly Morpeth Art Awards. Hall is well known for his formalist art assemblages containing beehive boxes, tea boxes and other industrial materials.
Hall believes we underrate the cultural and aesthetic value of ordinary things and that familiarity dulls our senses. His work involves the assemblage of discarded materials that reveal particular aspects of who we are. These assemblages are a celebration of the unexpected beauty and cultural traces, found in discarded waste.
