Born in Tilburg, Holland, Helena is a self-taught artist currently working with oil pastel and gouache on paper and acrylic on canvas.
She works still life into landscapes, and loves the vibrancy and colours of pastels and creates colourful intensity in acrylics as well.
Helena’s inspiration comes firstly from her travelling experiences in Southern Europe where the unchanged country life, people, fishing villages and markets provide a wealth of material. Also, Helena captures the grandeur, starkness and natural beauty of the South and North Island of New Zealand. She loves the vivid coastal contrasts, of the bush landscape and colourful seas of both Islands. Helena is a fulltime artist and has studied printmaking, she has given lessons on her approach to painting in her studio, and enjoys sharing a life model with fellow contemporary artists, calling themselves ‘The Group’.
