Peter was born in Auckland in 1953. He was educated at Auckland Boys Grammar and in 1971-72 trained as a graphic artist at Auckland Technical Institute. Peter is mainly self-taught and is a dedicated traditional artist, specializing predominantly in landscape and coastal scenes. His distinctive Realist style has been described as “clean, crisp and strong”. Peter paints mainly in oils, but also enjoys working in pencil, chalk pastel and gouache.
Painting professionally since 1972, Peter has exhibited throughout New Zealand and is currently also exhibiting in Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane. Peter is an exhibiting member of the New Zealand Academy of Fine Arts Wellington. He now lives and works from his studio at Acacia Bay, Taupo, where he enjoys the changing landscape that the mountains and the lake offer. Peter Wallers has been represented in the Parnell Gallery since 2008.
