Bio

Shane Dudley’s works draw on both his Pakeha and Maori background, with many pieces highlighting the Mana of the ‘real’ object such as a Huia feather or mere pounamu, of which he makes powerfully enlarged versions.

New Zealand born Shane ‘Spud’ Dudley lives and works in Auckland after spending several years in Australia.

Shane’s background in hand applied sign-writing and specialist concrete crafting complements his work as he uses cement and colored oxides as a mixed media to create a unique texture without the use of paints, to overlay onto hardy-board (this is his canvas). This technique allows him to mimic stone without the weight.

“I love New Zealand’s raw volcanic presence, along with the relatively short, but action packed past, from the time humans first set foot on this land. This is, and continues to be, my inspiration. My challenge is to transfer our history into contemporary art works that are seriously textured and conceptually new.”

-Shane Dudley

All of Shane’s pieces can be easily hung and are statement pieces in private collections and corporate settings, with works held in private collections in New Zealand, Australia, United Kingdom, USA & Europe. Shane currently lives in Auckland.
