‘Elevate’, a laminated glass sculpture, reveals itself through layers of precision-cut form. Landers has meticulously carved each vertical plane with undulating waveforms that, when viewed together, create an illusion of movement, akin to light refracted through water or sound suspended in space. When placed side by side, the two forms engage in a subtle visual dialogue: mirrored yet distinct, they balance tension and harmony equally.

Landers’ ability to transform a rigid material into something that feels fluid, rhythmic, and alive offers a tactile and immersive experience of his material. ‘Elevate’ invites observation and calibration; it rewards time spent exploring the form from multiple angles, watching light and shadow shift through its transparent surfaces, revealing new alignments with every step.

Artist Bio

Richard Landers is a contemporary glass artist whose sculptural practice explores the interplay of light, form, and space. Working primarily with laminated float glass, often recycled from discarded windowpanes, Landers creates structural works that draw attention to the subtle choreography between reflection, refraction, and negative space. His minimalist forms harness the natural light and surrounding environment, borrowing hues and shifting tones to animate otherwise colourless surfaces.

Balancing precision with intuition, Landers employs the repetition of simple geometric shapes to explore spatial relationships and visual tension. At the heart of his work is a fascination with what is not there: the voids, the absences, and the spaces in between. Each sculpture is a negotiation between material and environment, positive and negative space, light and shadow. While deceptively restrained, these works carry a quiet complexity that rewards close inspection, encouraging viewers to pause, look again, and consider what they might have overlooked.
