listener.co.nz marked its second birthday in July 2025 and with it comes a now annual tradition: recognising thirty visionary New Zealanders under the age of thirty who are shaping the country’s future.
The 2025 list spans sectors as varied as advocacy, business innovation, technology, science, and the arts. It highlights young people whose drive, ingenuity, and impact reach far beyond their years.
This year’s feature brings together activists working for climate justice and accessibility, entrepreneurs creating global tech solutions, rising voices in media, and creatives who are carving out distinct artistic paths. Among the artists, writers and musicians honoured, we are delighted to see Parnell Gallery artist Elliot Love included.
The article spotlights Elliot’s distinctive journey and the singular focus that defines his practice. Now twenty seven, Elliot took an unexpected path into the arts. After leaving high school, he had given up art entirely and was studying towards a degree in physical education. A visit to Tim Wilson’s gallery in Queenstown changed everything, reigniting his creative drive and setting him on a completely new trajectory.
Five years later, he has established himself as a professional artist recognised for crisp, hyper realistic paintings that capture urban landscapes through the lens of classic cars from the 1980s and 90s. These vehicles, many older than Elliot himself, become markers of time and memory in his work, rendered with absolute precision and an unmistakable sense of admiration.
The Listener notes the the popularity of Love’s works, an acknowledgment of both his technical mastery and the strong connection audiences feel with his subject matter. His ability to take something deeply personal, such as a love of cars, and transform it into artwork with broad emotional appeal is one of the many reasons he stands out on this year’s list.
We are proud to see Elliot’s work recognised among a group of extraordinary young New Zealanders who are each contributing something meaningful to our cultural and creative landscape. His dedication, talent and disciplined approach to his craft continue to resonate with collectors, followers, and first time viewers alike.
