Contemporary painter Greer Clayton extracts the essence of Aotearoa’s natural environment through large-scale, immersive landscapes. Conceptualised through the act of painting and grounded in retrospection and evocation, her atmospheric works present abstracted impressions of place — moody, timeless, and ethereal compositions that encourage introspection and a halcyon sense of solitude.
Greer recently joined Catie Dawson on the Super Creative podcast for a warm and insightful kōrero that journeys through the stages of her creative life. From an early love of painting and colour to building a consistent and authentic art practice, Greer speaks candidly about her evolution as an artist and the personal connection she brings to each work.
Throughout the episode, Greer reflects on the importance of confidence, growth, collaboration, and the joy of watching her paintings resonate with others. Colour remains a constant thread — a central element of her practice and a powerful conduit for emotion and memory.
Greer has exhibited extensively across Aotearoa and internationally, and has been represented by Parnell Gallery for over a decade. Most recently, her work was exhibited at the 2025 Aotearoa Art Fair.
We loved hearing this kōrero between Catie and Greer — two creatives in conversation about a life shaped by art, colour, and connection.
