Like us, the team at HOME Magazine are completely enamoured with Sally Bulling’s captivating and vibrant ‘Flowers From: Andy’ series.

The Queenstown-based artist’s latest body of work will be on view in her exhibition ‘A Pansy for your Thoughts’, at Parnell Gallery from 14-28 May. To celebrate, we’ve teamed up with HOME to give away a piece from Sally’s ‘Flowers From: Andy’ series in a colour palette of your choosing, valued at $3,000.

This vibrant series of sculptural ‘Flower Clusters’ draws inspiration from Andy Warhol’s iconic flower prints of the 1960s. Each of the blooms in Bulling’s engaging installations are shaped after the pansy – a flower the artist is drawn to for its rich and historic symbolic significance, she says, “Pansies carry a fascinating history, ranging from their appearance in Shakespeare’s ‘Midsummer Night’s Dream’ to their symbolic association with pride movements. Rooted in French origins the pansy translates to “thought” in English, inspiring the title of my exhibition, ‘A Pansy For Your Thoughts’.”

Bulling utilises mirror as her canvas, pouring epoxy glass onto shaped surfaces imbued with her arresting palette of vibrant or sombre colour and golds. She paints the back of each bloom in her sculptural installations, her chosen colour casting a gentle aura of light and hue to the wall behind.
