The latest work from sculptor Matt Gauldie, ‘Waiata Aroha’, is a finely crafted work in bronze that captures the delicate spirit of the pīwakawaka (fantail). Poised with its tail fanned high and body leaning forward in lively curiosity, the pīwakawaka appears to be caught mid-song, in a moment that embodies the energy and playfulness for which this beloved native species is known.
Through ‘Waiata Aroha’, Gauldie brings together the elegance of form, the permanence of bronze, and the resonance of cultural symbolism, creating a work that is at once intimate and enduring; a celebration of aroha and of the living voices within our natural world.
