Artist Bio

Richard Wells is a contemporary sculptor based in Tāmaki Makaurau / Auckland, recognised for his thoughtful and evocative bronze works.

Specialising in figurative sculpture, Wells’ sculptures explore the nuances of both human and animal form, with a particular emphasis on capturing character, gesture, and expression. Whether portraying a well-loved dog, as in his Labrador works, or the graceful lines of the human body in Aurora and Contour, Wells imbues his sculptures with a quiet, contemplative presence. He works across all scales, from midscale and collectable miniature sculptures to larger-than-life works that command attention as striking features, installed indoors or outdoors. His use of traditional casting techniques results in works that are visually compelling and rich in texture, inviting a deeper, tactile engagement with the viewer.
